MAPFRE RE Participates in the 48th annual Seminar Organised by the International Insurance Society (IIS)

Mr. Antonio Huertas, Chairman of MAPFRE, and Mr. José Manuel Martínez, Honorary Chairman of MAPFRE and Member of the IIS Board, also attended this prestigious discussion forum which addressed issues referring to the trends in the international insurance and reinsurance markets.

Mr. Pedro de Macedo took part, together with other prominent executives from the world’s reinsurance sector, in the “Global Reinsurance Leadership Panel”, in which, among others, the effect of Solvency II on reinsurance, the supervision of the multinational groups, and reinsurance impact and management of natural catastrophes, in particular those arising from global warming, were analysed.

Moreover, these experts shared their different views regarding the latest protectionist measures in certain markets with respect to reinsurance cessions abroad. During his speech and with regard to the regulatory changes introduced in Brazil throughout 2011, the Chairman and CEO of MAPFRE RE, stated that “consumers can greatly benefit from the access of insurance and reinsurance companies to international markets”. Moreover, Mr. Pedro de Macedo reaffirmed MAPFRE RE’s full commitment to the Brazilian market, where the Group operates through its subsidiary MAPFRE RE DO BRASIL since the end of 2008.

The IIS, which was founded in 1965, is the world’s largest and most prestigious industry organisation. It has almost 900 members who represent global insurance leaders, international regulatory authorities and worldwide insurance scholars from over 90 countries. The IIS was set up as a discussion forum in which executives around the world share information on relevant issues for the industry.
